Lighting, Heating and Humidity for the Garter Snake & Ribbon Snake

Lighting

Lighting can be provided by several means. The dome/heat lamp is one that provides both heat and light during the day time hours. Ceramic Heat Emitters (CHE) screwed into heat lamps emit only heat and no light. I use a combination of a florescent light fixture with a dome lamp with a CHE instead if a light bulb. The light and CHE are on a timer set for 12 on 12 off.

Heating

Heating can be provided by the combination of a heat lamp and a hating pad. I use the heat lamp during the day time and the pad during the night. The temperatures for the day should be between 77 and 86 degrees and the night temperatures between 60 and 68 degrees.

Humidity

A water bowl placed in the enclosure should provide adequate humidity. Having a humidity level too high can cause skin diseases and illness. The humidity level should be raised when your snake is in shed (eyes turning blue)
